Mike Caro who was born May 16, 1944 and is known as the "Mad Genius of Poker" due to his nature of making some plays that many considered crazy, but fortunately for him the plays paid off. He has experienced a variety of wins throughout the years, including several wins at the 2006 the World Series of Poker. While at this tournament Caro collectively won $43,791, of which $21,385 was his prize for placing eighth in Seven Card Stud. Some of his titles include The Body Language of Poker, Caro on Gambling, Mike Caro's Book of Poker Tells, Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker, and Poker for Women: A Course in Destroying Male Opponents at Poker and Beyond. In addition to being an author, Caro has also recorded some videos, many of which can accompany his books. In addition to authoring books, Caro has also lent his knowledge to several magazines including Games Magazine, Science 85, Family Computing, and Infoworld. At one point he was the editor-in-chief at Poker Player magazine and senior editor at Gambling Times.

Most recently he has opened the Mike Caro University of Poker, Gambling, and Life Strategy. The site which can be found at www.Poker1.com, offers players educational tools such as articles, tips, odds, and lectures. There is also a dictionary and a list of rules to help out even the most novice of all players. Lecture topics at the Mike Caro University of Poker, Gambling, and Life Strategy are numerous but include Protecting your Poker Bankroll and When to Fold Strong Hands. The site also offers a forum for players to discuss their game and Caro has made himself personally available through the site by allowing visitors to email him in addition to providing an online mailing list. Visitors to the site can purchase Caro's books in addition to other poker game materials such as reports, audio, video, and software. The site also features Mike Caro's Brain Trust in which he makes predictions on what will occur in America as well as the world.

In 1992, Caro successfully introduced the first-world class poker tournament to the east coast of the United States. Referred to as the World Poker Finals it was the first to have limited sponsorship and to also use a four-color deck, which Caro is a very vocal advocate due to each suit being a different color. As a consultant for many casinos, Caro has advised many in the areas of games, odds, marketing, and procedures. His knowledge of these topics has proved to be extremely reliable and therefore has been in use by casinos for at least sixteen years. In addition to his knowledge in these areas, Caro has taught courses in casino room management and has lectured at such places as the California Card Club Association and the World Poker Industry Conferences.

In a game that is notorious for cheaters, Caro is a proponent against cheating and has a Cheating Monitoring Service that solicits information on scams. Furthermore, due to Caro's ethical fabric he refuses to work with advanced players unless the player pledges not to cheat or partake in scams. This moral work-up has helped to made Caro one of the most respected players in the game, not to mention one of the most successful.

Personal Quote

I believe that some poker players try to concentrate too hard in the course of a game. They burn themselves out in the first hour and can't play extended sessions in top form, even when the games are very profitable. Concentration is good in poker, but don't force it to the extent that you're uncomfortable.
