World Series Of Poker Top Prize At $8.25 Million
Added: December 31st, 1969

With 6,358 entrants, the World Series of Poker's grand prize is said to be $8.25 million in the much anticipated Texas Holdem Main Event.  Event organizers upped the payoff from $8.23 million. For anyone that finishes in the money, they will have a prize pool of about $59.8 million to share between them.

The tournament has seen a definite reduction in the number of entrants this year, this is blamed largely due to the UIEGA passed last October making it illegal for banks to transfer money to and  from online poker and casino websites.

In previous tournaments, large websites such as partypoker.com and paradisepoker.com to mention a couple have sponsored large groups of players filling up the seats.  Now, they no longer allow us players and subsequently has hurt the tournaments registration.

Jeffery Pollack, the tournament commissioner said that they were more focused on making the tournament bigger, not necessarily better.  He also said. "Whoever wins will walk away a multimillionaire, lives will be changed and some great poker will be played."

There is still no clear winner in site, pros such has Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and Greg Raymer (the 2004 champ) have already been bounced.

The WSOP's main event has been seen as the flagship event in poker.    The tournament has risen in popularity of the past few years creating a river of amateur poker players, taking vacations from their 9-5 jobs in hopes of winning the coveted grand prize.

The remaining 1789 players got down to the final day of play at noon on Monday.  The once that make it out will play in two rounds beginning Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday with the final round to take place on July 17th.

Steps like passing of the UIEGA are not progressive one. Why can't this event be treated at par with other games like Formula 1 racing. It also involves huge amount of money and is risky too. These games should be promoted and not curbed.

It was also a good move to increase the number of players who cash out.
