The Team PokerStars Pro is the chip leader heading into today's final table of WPT Festa al Lago with $6.4 million chips, which is more than double the stack of his closest competitor, Canada's Nenad Medic, who has $3 million.
Although Grospellier is a very accomplished poker player he has only won one major poker tournament and that was the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure earlier this year. Grospellier defeated Hafiz Khan to take down an astounding $2 million from the tournament.
Since then the former professional Starcraft player has added another $180,000+ from a final table finish at the €10,000 Grand Prix De Paris and two cashes at the WSOP including one in the Main Event.
The final table of Festa al Lago could have lasting implications for French poker rankings as Grospellier can overtake David Benyamine as the all-time French tournament money winner by coming second or first in the $15,000 event. ElkY will also become one of the few players to hold a WPT and EPT title if he can take it down.
Grospellier will have his work cut out for him, however, as the final table includes a few marquee players including the aforementioned Medic, Nam Le and Adam Levy.
Medic is an absolute glutton for deep runs in WPT events and has already racked up an incredible eight cashes in the tour during the past two years including first place at the World Poker Finals in 2006. Medic also added a WSOP title by winning the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em Championship Event.
Le is one of the few players that can claim an even better record at WPT tournaments with a total of 10 cashes starting with his victory at WPT Shooting Stars in 2006. Most recently Le won the PokerStars.com APPT High Rollers event in Macau for $473,915.
Finally Levy, or Roothlus as you might know him, is a well-known and consistently successful online player. Levy was recently signed to UltimateBet's Star Player's team and although he enters the final table of Festa al Lago as a short stack there is no question that he is one of the most dangerous players at the final table.
Odie Dardon and William Mietz round out what could be a very memorable final table from the heart of poker - the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
PokerListings.com is out in full force at Festa al Lago with the irrepressible Martin Derbyshire handling the tournament reporting duties bringing every big hand, colorful photo and witty remark from the event to our live tournaments section. It all begins at 4 p.m. PT today so grab your favorite beverage, cozy up in your computer chair and see how it all plays out.
