Online Pro Secures Gukpt Victory
Added: October 21st, 2008

It was a hard-fought battle for Teng as he defeated fellow online pro Jamie Brown during heads-up to become the 18th GUKPT main event winner. The outcome was not obvious at the outset of heads-up play, however, as 22-year-old Brown held $1.8 million in chips to Teng's $400,000.

Teng fought back strong, doubling up a flush versus Brown's trip kings, and then after about two hours of heads-up play the clash finally came to a head.

Teng raised holding pocket eights, and Brown moved all-in over the top. Teng called, and Brown showed a dominated pocket fours.

When the board couldn't improve Brown's hand, Teng had the victory and a £68,380 win. Brown picked up £39,550 for second place.

The results from the final table are as follows:

The final table was filled with high-quality players once again for the tour. Late Night Poker Season 2 winner Simon Trumper went into the final table as the short stack. Unfortunately he was also the first out as his pocket eights were topped by Brown's K-4 early in final-table play.

Karl Mahrenholz wasn't too far behind Trumper, taking the eight place spot. He also has a second-place finish in the inaugural GUKPT event in January 2007.

Dave "riverdave" Penly has also been keeping a high profile in the European poker rankings this year. He finished in fifth place, while Paul Rigg, who has a 12th-place finish from the Luton leg of the GUKPT in August, picked up the fourth-place spot.

Teng's previous best live result was a 126th-place finish in the World Series of poker Main Event earlier this year. He and Brown were both at a loss for words after the event ended, but during the post tournament press conference they paid each other compliments on their play.

Leg 9 of the GUKPT will take place in Blackpool Nov. 13-16. For more details or the full schedule for the rest of this season, visit www.gukpt.com.
