Phil Ivey In Battle Of The Titans
Added: October 19th, 2008

The three online nosebleeders are no doubt hoping for a little action Hansen injection to their session, but for now they have to deal with beating up on each other. During this session all of the largest pots have been between Ivey and Urindanger with Ivey coming out close to $100,000 on top.

The worse news for Urindanger is he's also losing some of the biggest pots of the day on the other tables he's playing. He's leaking like a universal pre-release DVD.

This hand is a setup situation, one of those pots that kind of makes you feel a little bit sick inside.

Phil Ivey wins the pot ($159,491) with a straight, King high
Urindanger adds $49,400

The preflop action is pretty self-explanatory. Once on the flop Ivey now thinks he's in a much better spot than he really is. He has the up and down straight draw, with an over-card. If Urin has a pair of jacks or less, Ivey's Queen is live for three more outs.

This puts Ivey into a very standard semi-bluff situation. When Urin bets out, Ivey makes his semi-bluff raise. Urin pushing leaves Ivey totally committed to the pot, only having to call $38k more to see two cards.

With no need to wait, the King ball hits the turn putting Ivey into the lead. Urindanger fails to pair the board for the re-suck shipping the pot to Ivey.

As poker players we've all been in this situation before, just very few of us have been in it for a $150,000 pot.
