Viva Mexico Pokerstars Announces Lapt Dates
Added: November 8th, 2008

PokerStars announced this week that the next stop will be Dec. 5-7 in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The tournament will have a $2,700 buy-in and will take place at the beachfront Marival Resort & Suites.

Rest assured there will be plenty of satellites at PokerStars for players to win their way to the event as well. Players have the chance to win a prize package worth $5,000, which includes the main event buy-in, four nights' all-inclusive hotel accommodation and money for expenses.

"PokerStars LAPT Season 1 was an overwhelming success, demonstrating the enormous growth and expansion of poker across Latin America and the appeal of these venues for international players," said LAPT President Glenn Cademartori.

"Moving the tour into Latin America's tourism high season will make it easier and even more enjoyable for players to travel to these exotic destinations for exciting live high-stakes championship poker."

The first leg of the tour, in Costa Rica, saw 219 players hit the felt for poker action this week. Their $3,700 buy-ins created a $977,000 prize pool.

The tournament actually saw fewer players than the Season 1 Costa Rica stop, but the increase in buy-in still meant a slightly larger prize pool was up for grabs for the players who came out.

"Players have a lot to look forward to in Season 2 as we are doubling the size of the tour. It will now run from November to April visiting six countries in six months," Cademartori said.

More than a thousand poker players from 45 countries took part in Season 1 of the LAPT, creating a prize pool of more than $2.5 million. Along with the original stops of Brazil, Costa Rica and Uruguay from Season 1, Season 2 adds Mexico, Chile and Argentina.

It's not only locals and online poker satellite winners who are expected to take seats at the various LAPT stops this season. Some of the game's top pros and Team PokerStars members will be there as well, like Humberto Brenes, Andre Akkari, Alexandre Gomes and Greg Raymer.
