When the WPT last stopped at the Bellagio for the Festa al Lago in 2006, the buy-in was $10,000. The event drew 433 players to create a more than $4 million prize pool.
The big winner for the event was Andreas Walnum, from Bodo, Norway. Walnum topped a playing field that included many of poker's top pros.
Some of the pros who made it into the money in the event were Tony Cousineau, Isabelle Mercier, David Pham, Van Nguyen, David Benyamine, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Brian Townsend, Scott Fischman, Ali Eslami, Billy Baxter, Erik Seidel, Dan Harrington, Layne Flack, Jennifer Harman, Chip Jett, Mimi Tran, Carlos Mortensen and more.
It's a safe bet many of these pros will come out to play again with the tournament in Las Vegas, otherwise known as home turf for many of them.
The action for the Festa al Lago gets started today at noon PT with Day 1a. It is scheduled to take until Oct. 16 to find a winner, with Day 1b kicking off at noon on Tuesday, and days 2 through 5 starting at noon Wednesday through Saturday.
On Saturday, the tournament will play down to the top six for the televised final table, which will play on Sunday.
Each player will begin with a $45,000 starting chip stack. Blind levels will be 90 minutes long, and there will be a 15-minute break after each level.
How the prize pool gets divvied up will depend on the attendance for the event. The top 50 players will cash if there are 300-399 players registered, or the top 100 will walk away with money if more than 399 play.
