The Poker Den is the invention of PartyPoker and Matchroom sport and in the past has drawn the attention of big name pros like Phil Hellmuth, Roland de Wolfe and Tony G.
"The Poker Den has come a long ways since we started back in the summer of 2005," explained Eddie Hearn, head of online gaming at Matchroom Sport. "The Big Game has been such a huge success, and the two series so far have attracted the best players in the world. We have some great action, fantastic banter between the players and some berating between the players."
The format sees each player buy-in for a minimum of $10,000 with blinds starting at $25/$50. Every player is free to leave the table at any time they want. Increasing the stakes by straddling is a common occurrence.
"The format has become one of the most popular amongst international broadcasters and with this series being eight hours longer, some players have boasted that they can go the full 36 hours without a break - and that I can't wait to see," added Hearn.
All the usual suspects are scheduled to return with Neil Channing, de Wolfe, Robert Williamson III, Jamie Gold, Tony G, Andrew Feldman, Brian Townsend and Kirk Morrison already confirmed. New additions include Phil Laak, Jon Kalmar, Antonio Esfandiari, Sammy Goerge, Roberto Romanello, John Tabatabai, Jennifer Tilly and John Tabatabai.
It's not known whether Hellmuth will return but it was certainly interesting last time Hellmuth played. Commentator Padraig Parkinson described Hellmuth's performance as "half murder, half suicide."
Commenter Jesse May better stock up on the energy drinks and coffee because he will provide coverage of every minute of the 36-hour marathon of poker.
