About Poker Pro Doyle Brunson
In the world of poker, the game that took over America and become the third most watched sport on television, the first has always been and continues to be, the legendary Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson.
Brunson grew up poor in rural Texas. He was able to further his education by earning scholarships for his athletic ability. Bruson earned a Masters Degree in Education. Doyle was sidelined with a traumatic leg injury and a near fatal car accident. During his recuperation his card playing abilities were further developed. Once he was back on his feet he sought employment in Administrative Education but then he realized how low the pay would be compared to what he made in card games.
Doyle became one of the original "rounders" where he would travel betting on poker, golf and in Doyle's words, "just about everything".
Doyle ventured into Las Vegas after stripping Texas dry. Doyle's play became an attraction in itself. People flocked to see him at the table. In 1978 Doyle wrote Super/System and revolutionized poker play.
Doyle is still a formidable force at the tables and he continues to play high stakes games. He writes for a number of publications and has his own poker site DoylesRoom.com.
Doyle's son Todd also plays poker professionally. Todd has won a bracelet in Omaha Hi Lo at the 2005 WSOP. The Brunsons are the first father-son combination to win bracelets at the World Series.
